So far this year, Colly Strings have appeared alongside Feeder, The Wombats and Maybeshewill, and their music has been compared to the likes of Biffy Clyro, Two Door Cinema Club and even U2. Not bad for a band who only formed last year.
There are certainly a number of divergent elements to ‘Take a Good Look’ that make it an interesting single that does at least deserve a second play, and what begins as a fairly standard choppy indie tune that says ‘ordinary blokes in jeans ‘n’ t-shirts’, soon rocks out into a generously proportioned chorus. There’s even a mathy little interlude that pops up quite unexpectedly, and the whole thing’s delivered with an energy that’s hard to ignore.
