Review: 'MAX & THE WILD THINGS'
'Max & The Wild Things'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Alt/Country' -  Release Date: '6th April 2011'

Our Rating:
This is a quartet from Nashville, none of whom is named Max.

If you know your children's classics you'll recognise that the band name is a reference to Maurice Sendak's Where The Wild Things Are.

The real leader of the band is Aidan Traynor who writes the songs, sings and plays guitar and banjo. His brother plays bass.

Theirs is a rough and ready mix of rockabilly and modern skiffle which they prefer to call New Country/Punk Wave.

Based on the sound of the twelve tracks on this debut album, MATWT are more likely to be found busking on a street corner on music row than headlining at the Grande Ole Opry.

The songs are catchy and not to be taken too seriously - In Tune is about being out of tune, Got Not Money is about being broke but having a lot of love to give, Rocketship GO is able being stranded in outer space.

Don't expect any great insights into life and love but this is a simple, likeable set of tunes with no pretensions of achieving stadium status.
