Review: 'TRAVELLERS, THE'
'FOR THE WAVES'

-  Label: 'Self-released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: '20th May 2011'

Our Rating:
This is a 5 track CD so I guess the first thing I would say is does that make it an EP or a mini-album? Neither probably.

The first track ‘Waiting’ is a healthy start to proceedings. It has a nice guitar motif and melody and Gemma’s vocals have an air of Cerys Matthews about them. ‘Leaning On The Wind’ is next along and would make a good single. The sound is a bit more pumped up, the backbeat has boogie and the riff is crunchy. It is louder and more arresting than the opening track.

‘Never And Ever’ is altogether more contemplative and hazy. The vocals are down a notch and breathy and all the better for it and the song fades with the vocal refrain “we’ll never end”. On ‘Talk To Me’ the drums come to the front with double kick and snare and the guitar maintains that ‘vintage’ sound that they seem so enamoured of. Unfortunately the song never quite seems to find its feet.

The last track is ‘Rain’ which has a touch of the epic about it. Oh the epic rain song. The protagonist of this song is “walking over the sand”. The chorus is good and the bass walks all over the sound. The guitar and keys of this duo and couple combine well as they fade.
