Review: 'DANGEROUS PONIES'
'Dangerous Ponies'

-  Label: 'Punk Rock Payroll'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'March 2011'

Our Rating:
This is the debut full length album from a seven-piece "queer and allied" party band from Philadelphia.

Their speciality is carnivalesque dance pop in a 60s/70s style with a stated aim of sharing uncomplicated feel-good pop to stimulate positive energy levels.

The band is the brainchild of Chrissy Tashjiian whose voice is the most prominent although you get the sense that other band members are itching to get in on the act.

They apparently cut a dash on stage in brightly coloured costumes and you imagine they are trying to capture a live mood with this record.

It is energetic and, with three guitarists, bass, keyboards and drums, they have a dynamic sound but what is missing are strong hooks or sing along choruses.

Great titles like 'I only wear my favourite clothes at home' and 'I've been going about this wrong' fail to live up to expectations.

The 13 songs are fairly anonymous and since there are practically no pauses between it is not so easy to say where one ends and another begins.

Conclusion - probably worth seeing live ; no great shakes on disc.
