Review: 'MARTINI, BRETT'
'LOVERS LANE'

-  Label: 'Self-released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'May 2011'

Our Rating:
Ex- Voice of the Beehive man BRETT MARTINI'S first solo release is described as a “quirky, alternative ballad”. Presumably that’s a defence for rhyming the words “mad”, “sad” and “ever had” in succession. Despite some audacious poetics it does possess a lovely and rich acoustic texture, great backing vocals and a backwards guitar solo (always an absolute winner!).

It has a dreamy feel which makes it feel like something Bowie might have written as a throwaway in his Hunky Dory period, unfortunately the melody isn’t strong enough to force its way out of the throwaway category. It’s nice enough, but a little inessential. And it lacks an apostrophe.
