Review: 'DONAGHY, SIOBHAN'
'OVER-RATED'

-  Label: 'EPIC'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: 'JULY 2003'

Our Rating:
You've gotta be either confident or stupid to release a debut single called "Over-rated", haven't you? Let's face it, the possibilities for a sound slagging and caption put-downs are legon and your reviewer can see a thousand sub-editors smirking in unison in his mind as he scribbles.

However, SIOBHAN DONAGHY'S by no means stupid, and her confidence here suggests she's gonna be a tougher nut to crack than you might imagine on the basis of "Over-rated", as it's a slow-burning, epically-proportioned pop track, with attitude, widdly basslines and drama aplenty, all of which suggest Ms.Donaghy may have the staying power required to tackle survival long-term in this murderous business. The fact it also manages to rhyme "Over-rated" with "serrated" gets my vote, an' all.

This has been A-listed by both Radio 1 and MTV, so make no mistake about the whiff of money hanging in the air here, but - possibly against my better judgment - I like "Over-rated." I dunno about a whole album of this stuff, but right now this is a potent, intoxicating pop fix.
