Just when I thought I'd heard all the indie / electropop I needed for a lifetime, along come Films of Colour with 'Capital' and I'm forced to think again. Casting an analytical eye over the drudgery of working life and its effects, Andy Clutterbuck fires out a personal manifesto for surviving the daily grind. The Muse-like electro ripples are kept in check, allowing the driving guitars to dominate the colossal chorus that's both irresistible and exhilarating.
Persinette is – and it pains me to us the word – anthemic. No, I'm not taking the piss. From a simmering tension, it begins moodily and moves dangerously toward stadium rock territory, yet someho manages to get away with it by virtue of Clutterbuck's vocal delivery and the textured sound... and then it finally explodes into a searing blast of guitars that roar like a jet engine to provide that all-essential 'yess!' moment.
