Review: 'Walton Hoax, The'
'Chemical Burn EP'

-  Label: '!MPACT Recordings'
-  Genre: 'Dance' -  Release Date: '15th August 2011'-  Catalogue No: 'IMPLP001'

Our Rating:
Lead track 'Chemical Burn' is sparse and haunting and slips over an echoed, glitchy beat. The vocals don't really sit so well, being all too mainstream r'n'b for the moody, spatially open music.

This makes 'Exit Strategy' the more successful of the tracks on the EP, being a more straightforward minimalist, beat-driven r'n'b number, but for all of the Hoax's attempts at atmosphere, there's nothing that really stands out as being remotely memorable here.

This article is more than touch-and-go. Its written with little insight in the backgrounds of UKG, Dubstep and 2-Step, which already makes for a presumptuous try. But then of course it also doesnt help that in those few words, theres mention of two incorrect genres, that only two of four songs are mentioned, and that it ends in a link with a wrong bandname! The writer was clearly beyond a loss for inspiration here. He seems a bit in over his head, resulting in sloppy work of little value.
