Our Rating:
After two summers spent pulling up trees in Greater Manchester and beyond, The JGB stepped up in style earlier this year style by finally signing with capital-based cult major Acid Jazz.

Their first long-player, scheduled to hit the shelves this side of Christmas, is preceded preceded by this mouthwatering official debut double A-sided single.

All four group members still look at least two years younger than they are: if this only serves to further enhance the gravity-defying quality and infectious magic of their Trojan-steeped vibrations, then the ultra-sleazy darkside favoured by these rookie pioneers is even more unsettling.

Such is the accuracy of their big reverb dancehall riddims that the sight of these baby-faced white-boy ragamuffins just doesn't add up.

Close your eyes, and both the natural delivery and super-authenticity of the JGB's re-interpreted dub system sounds will instantly take you back; for this alone they should be cherished.

But their mouthwatering I-powered rastafari bounce is no mere ragga-by-number copyist stunt. The skank-fuelled sounds, simply too irresistible to be superficial: also provide a solid backdrop for innovation as just one edge of a razor-sharp double-edged sword that's brought smack-bang up to date by front-man Joe Jones and his harsh tapestry of shamelessly-aired, crack whore-obsessed sleaze.

Psychotic, and ultimately homicidal thoughts are shared unselfconsciously as the JGB seek to bring attention to the latent web of vice that still lurks largely unnoticed beneath the veneer of respectability that shrouds life's winners.

Uncompromisingly-titled, 'Murder' has been a cornerstone of the JGB's phenomenal live show from the start. Deep echoes can't hide the deranged laughter, before Jones launches his stark tirade:

"I got my wife, oh she's so nice/I got her from Thailand, I don't ask twice"

With a flip side that's preoccupied with the consequences of surrendering to barely- controllable psychotic urges to kill and maim, 'Assassiner' picks up where 'Murder' left off, adding the mindless repetition of a vocal mantra that adds a hypnotic dimension to the ever-spiralling madness.

With Josh's stunning trumpet vying for control with the seldom expressed thoughts that confirm Jones as bona-fide padded cell material, this is sheer quality with a filthy dirty streak. It stands alone thanks to the deep down truth that's evident in every aspect.

If you buy or listen to nothing else this year, this record makes for absolutely essential listening; the staggering potential of the full-length record will now ensure an agonizing wait for it's release.
