This Exeter quartet's previous releases have received big thumbs up in the virtual pages of Whisperin' and Hollerin. And on the strength of this single, lifted from their second album, 'In Another Life', it's easy to see why – and rather hard to believe they're not from the US, and not much, much bigger.
Now, as an example of country rock with a very strong emphasis on the country, I'd not normally go for this sort of thing. Yet there's something about the rich, full sound and fairly stomping rhythm that elevates 'I'm the Man You Need' above the arid plains of regular alt.country. Bolstered by a robust, heartfelt chorus and a certain degree of swagger, the song shines like an oasis.
