Jim Ward, formerly of At The Drive-In, Sparta and Sleepercar, has gone solo. Prefacing his solo debut album, the catchily entitled 'Quiet In the Valley, On the Shores the End Begins', which promises 'beautifully constructed acoustic folk music', is this single.
What's to say? It's petty standard fayre, and largely unremarkable, and I'm not sure I'm altogether convinced by Ward's intimation that 'I don't find success interesting as art' (although I suppose it could be interpreted more than one way). Nevertheless, it ticks the required boxes of being heartfelt and melodic and bursts into a suitably stadium-sized chorus, but just doesn't stand out from the crowd nearly enough to get my vote.
