With ‘Take It’ b/w ‘In the Middle’, there’s a great T-shirt slogan just waiting to be made. I’m sure that running the two titles together to create the suggestively euphemistic ‘Take it in the Middle’ would be something the cool kids would dig. Of course, when I say ‘cool’, I mean the kids who are the band’s target audience, the ones who are into the likes of You Me At Six and Reuben.
If anything, though, the band are being sold short by their references, and ‘Take It’ stands as being in a different league from the aforementioned points of comparison. The guitars are up in the mix, it’s driving and solid and Wayne Lightowler has a proper ‘rock’ voice. As a result, ‘Take It’ packs enough punch to make an impact. what’s more, it’s bristling with hooks and exploding with energy, and reminds me more of The Cult minus the scent of patchouli and cheese.
