...and so I was on the market for something soothing, that would provide a nice gentle soundtrack to the rather arduous task of repainting the spare room, and fell upon this album. It sounded promising at first, with some interesting ambient passages consisting of spacious sounds played at a sedate pace.
The introduction of voices a little way in brings a new dimension to the instrumental soundscapes, but before too long they've drifted out again and the compositions all too often lack anything to distinguish one track from another, or anything to draw the attention, and while I wasn't wanting anything that would compel me to try dancing wildly while perched halfway up a ladder with a brush dripping with Natural Wicker (which in all honesty is only a richer and more pleasant shade of beige than Magnolia) I do find myself concentrating more on the minute detail of the brushwork than the music. Yes, watching paint dry is proving to be more interesting.

It's a pity, because there are some passages of richly atmospheric texture that are extremely well done, with haunting, sinister tones and drones escalating hither and thither. These moments are engaging and well conceived, but unfortunately too few and far between to redeem the album as a whole.
I'd probably pass on the free 'digital poster' that accompanies the download, too: I'll stick to gazing at my Natural Wicker.
