It may sound a shade thin and a tad ramshackle in execution, but ‘Predator’ is a cracking slice of old-school punk pop, and the band’s citation of The Buzzcocks is pretty much on the money. Uncluttered by slick production values, the urgent delivery really cuts through and highlights the real appeal of what is a spirited and catchy nugget of a number.
The remaining tracks prove that this is no fluke, and demonstrate Sheepy’s knack for hooks and ear for vintage styling, not just in the sound, but in the songwriting; choppy guitars lead the way for the melody on these concisely packaged rough indie-pop diamonds. Even the poor quality sound on the demo cut of ‘Don’t Know Much’ can’t mask a decent tune.
