Review: 'Skeletons on Holiday'
'Night of the Long Knives / Silence is Broken'

-  Label: 'Hold Me to Ransom Records'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '9th January 2012'

Our Rating:
My skeleton went on holiday once. It was terrible. I spent the time lying prone and unable to move, an amorphous blob on the floor while my bones were having it large in some awful Spanish resort, the likes of which you see on ‘Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents’. Unable to to get to the bathroom – or the kitchen – I was a mess by the time it returned.

Thankfully, this double A-side is anything but boneless and it’s highly unlikely you’ll hear it being spun in Magaluf this summer either. Billed as ‘dramatic glam poppers’, there’s a keen hint of the gothic about these two tracks. There’s also a hint of Led Zeppelin’s ‘Babe I’m Gonna Leave You’ about ‘Night of the Long Knives’, in the guitar motif that preceded the chorus, but that’s not such a bad thing.

‘Silence is Broken’ is a smoky slice of sultry, slow-burning cabaret pop, and with its brooding piano and noirish vibes provides a different kind of drama from snaking guitar and lolloping rhythm of ‘Long Knives’.
