Review: 'Milk, The'
'B-Roads'

-  Label: 'Sign of the Times / Sony'
-  Genre: 'Soul' -  Release Date: '11th December 2011'

Our Rating:
The Milk continue their upward trajectory following up their debut single ‘(All I Wanted Was) Danger’ having signed a deal with Sony subsidiary Sign of the Times with ‘B-Roads’, a big soul number that locks into a rambunctious hip-hop groove. There’s some irritating scratching during the intro (has that gone through being passé to the point that it’s considered retro now?), but the song’s brazen hooks and heady catchiness is undeniable. Hell, it’s even had Zane Lowe frothing at the mouth with excitement. Oh, no, wait, he does that with everything he plays. Still, the point stands: ‘B-Roads’ sounds like a single and one that is at home on major league radio.

Of the supporting cast of B-Sides, the demo track ‘Kimmi Kimmi’ is the strongest, although the cover of Toots and the Maytals track ’54-46’ ain’t too shabby and acoustic demo of ‘Broke Up the Family’ reveals another side to The Milk, proving they’re more than mere froth.
