Review: 'JEFFERY, JACK'
'The Constant That Remains'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Release Date: '2nd January 2012'

Our Rating:
Jack Jeffrey is from northern Virginia and his primary, and very evident, influences are Pink Floyd, The Alan Parsons Project and The Beatles.

As with his first album - Passage To Agadir - this is a home recording in which he does all his own vocals and instrumentation.

Being self sufficient in this way allows him to indulge in some dreamy retro-psychedelica and get away with some wishy-washy lyrics.

The vocal tracks pay homage to (i.e. blatantly copy) Roger Waters and the album opens boldly with the longest track on the album entitled We Need It Back (The Modern Dream).

This is a very Floydian tune which,in seven minutes, contains all the essential ingredients of his aural palette - multi-tracked vocals, gentle synthesizer effects, muted guitars and warm ambient textures.

A Plea To A Dreamer is a musical tribute to John Lennon ("Dear John please teach us to give peace a chance") ending with an abridged Day In The Life style final chord.

Instrumentals tracks The Sirius Wall, Valencian Cosmos and Ascendancy are pure 70s prog which means that a baroque tune Gavotte For African Steel Guitar offers a welcome change of mood.

The final track, Carry On, floats away with the mantra "you and me, it's our destiny, longing to be free" concluding what is more of a stroll down musical memory lane than a futuristic vision.
