Review: 'LOW-FI'
'What We Are Is Secret'

-  Label: 'Octopus Records'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: 'February 2012'

Our Rating:
Low-Fi are a four-piece band from Naples who dress in black and sing in English.

They describe their debut full length album as "electro soundscapes enhanced by whipcrack guitars and obsessive drum beats"; in other words, they have been listening to a lot of NIN, The Cult, Bauhaus and Placebo.

Alessandro the singer specialises in breathy intensity and moody bass lines. His twin brother provides the 'whipcracks' on guitar, Guiseppe drums while Fabio the "electro-designer" adds synths and samples.

The goth meets glam sound features familiar post-punk angst heard to best effect on tracks like Dead Disco Syndrome and Speed Control ("there's something wrong with my gear box").

However, their remedies for fighting the 'no-one understands me' mood should not be tried at home - Private Revolution contains the worrying rallying cry of "destroy the system with radiation".

They dark, gloomy atmospherics and bad-boy looks may make a few Indie-girls swoon but what they are is no secret as it's been done so often before.
