Review: 'TRUDY, THE'
'DIRT CHEAP MELODY/ LA LA LOVE ME'

-  Label: 'Self-released'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'March 2012'-  Catalogue No: 'MIR045'

Our Rating:
This is the latest release from THE TRUDY, a band that were formed in 1988, and after releasing a couple of singles and an album, the band dissolved as members sought out their own individual projects, before regrouping in 2006. ‘Dirt Cheap Melody’ is the first single release from their forthcoming album, which has been scheduled for s summer release.

The ‘A’ side, which is the title track is a lovely exercise in indie guitar rock, with some classic vocals courtesy of Melissa Jo Heathcote, and a nice line in clever witty lyrics: -
“She floats so easy like, dust on a breeze. She flows with the rivers to the seas/ She’s got a portrait of, passion but never Christ/ She’s a’ lonely she doesn’t know why.”

The ‘B’ side, ‘La La Love Me’ is even better, having a slight '60s feel to it and relating the story of two lovers played out like some sort of kitchen sink drama: “Once upon a time, in a land far away, the story began for two people, just like today.
They kissed like this and they liked it a lot, and then they, well they …” What I liked about Melissa’s delivery here is that she actually sang “dot, dot, dot”!

The only downfall here is that this appears to be only available as a download. Which is a shame, as the promo CD is printed as a replica 45 RPM single that looks just great. However, the music here is really catchy and if the album is as good, then both will be a worthwhile investment.
