Our Rating:
Madison Violet (formerly known as Madviolet) are Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac. They are Canadians with, as you may guess from those names, Scottish roots.

The Good In Goodbye is the duo's fourth full length album with eleven songs of the sweet sorrow of parting and the calming comfort of home.

Brenley grew up listening to old time country and Lisa is from a family of fiddle players. Together they play mellow country leaning folk graced with strong melodies and pleasant harmonies.

Aside from guitar, mainly acoustic, the multi instrumental arrangements include mandolin, banjo and dobro.

It is produced, as with their last album No Fool For Trying, by Lee Cooper who also plays a range of instruments and adds backing vocals on a couple of tracks.

Apart from one sprightly traditional tune (Cindy Cindy) these are original compositions written either together or separately.

The most touching is the final song by Brenley dedicated to her 100 year-old grandmother Christy Ellen Francis.

It's all as snug and cosy as a nice cup of tea by the fireside although I found myself wishing someone could have spiked the brew with a tipple of whiskey to liven things up a little.
