Review: 'Junior High'
'PSA'

-  Label: 'Tapete Records'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '30th April 2012'

Our Rating:
It seems to me rather a contradiction that Junior High should set themselves up as being ‘a breath of fresh air’ in ‘an age thick with irony and emotional distance’ when they make music that’s as steeped in 80s emulation as ‘PSA’. In doing so, surely they’re only perpetuating that irony, only that in using such cheesy sounds, they’re into the realms of double irony, and the joke’s on them.

So, while a squelchy synth bass farts and funks away over a mid-tempo disco beat, slick vocals smooch on about parties and dancing. Yeah, so much for emotional depth.

It might make a change from the usual synth-pop reference points, but you’ve got ask, does the world really need a Kool and the Gang revival in 2012?
