Review: 'O CAOIMH, CORMAC'
'A New Season For Love'

-  Label: 'Self Released'
-  Genre: 'Folk' -  Release Date: '27th April 2012'

Our Rating:
Cork's Cormac O Caoimh seems to have taken on board his own advice from this album's opening track - There's Gold There Somewhere - which is to"breathe in and see what self-inspection brings" .

The reflective songs on his second solo release have a slightly sombre mood reminiscent of Sting's '......Nothing Like The Sun.

The recording was financed through the crowd funding website persuading donors to part with their cash with the promise that they would get to hear a set of quiet, relaxing, finger-picking songs.

O Caoimh used to be the lead singer of The Citadels and he has called upon two members of that now defunct band - Art O Laire (production and keyboards) and Eoghan Regan (electric guitar) - to help out on this project.

Not that any other instrumentation is really necessary as these twelve songs were written primarily as vehicles for O Caoimh's soft lilting voice with simple classical guitar accompaniment.

It's rather too subdued and sentimental for my taste but if you love gentle romantic tunes and the soothing tones of an Irish accent then I'd recommend sampling the title song and Counting The Raindrops to get a taste of what's on offer.
