Review: 'Shonen Knife'
'Pop Tune'

-  Album: 'Pop Tune' -  Label: 'Damnably'
-  Genre: 'Punk/New Wave' -  Release Date: '25th June 2012'-  Catalogue No: 'DAMNABLY019'

Our Rating:
Some 27 years on from their first release and and 18 albums into their staggering 31 year 9and counting) career and these girls are still crankin’ ‘em out. Like an all-girl Japanese punk-pop Fall, Shonen Knife aren’t only prolific, but they’re also consistent. Of course, each album comes in from a slightly different angle, but ultimately, you know what you’re going to get – and what you get is always unmistakably Shonen Knife. This is a good thing.

But really, what is there to be said about Shonen Knife that hasn’t already been said? In truth, precious little. The bottom line: ‘Pop Tune’ is bursting with upbeat, punky pop tunes in the style of the Ramones played simply, directly and with an irrepressible joy. Infectious, unpretentious dayglo fun, brimming with with perky melodies and boundless energy, it’s great fun. As long as you don’t arrive at this album expecting some kind of revolution, you won’t be disappointed.
