Our Rating:
Andrew Hamlet and Mat Jones are an electronic duo from across the pond. They deal in post-chillwave, incorporating elements of glitch and dubstep. The latter comes through with their use of chopped up, pitched down vocals not unlike James Blake.

Opening track Tusk In The Rock Flowers starts with a crunchy guitar melody as its main motif but then about half way through this is over taken by speak and spell vocals that don’t have a hold over me. It works as an introduction to their oeuvre but no more than that. Andross To Aneki starts with a more clean guitar chiming out and has a real nice ambient flow to it. A steady hand clap comes in to shift things up a bit in addition to female pitch vocals and then mysteriously the track comes to an end. Komuso Flutter Kick IV is a bit heavier on the vocals, a lot more warped and glitch. It stands out as the toughest kid in this playground. When She Ran is a loopy hypnotic track based around a choppy vocal and piano run and I can’t say more than that really. It loops! Sudden Ground is similar in nature only it goes a little deeper, in tone if not in content.

For me this EP raises more questions than it does answers and the brevity of the tracks accounts for a lot of this. Andross for example reminds me a little of Orbital but at around two minutes it never gives itself the chance to be epic. It may not want to but it could be. It could be that there is a lack of ideas but it seems more likely that the good ideas would benefit from being developed more in advance of an album.
