As the band’s name suggests, The Lightwings trade in breezy pop tunes. Taking their lead from the vintage sounds of Motown, Merseybeat and Britpop, the jaunty combo’s latest offering is short, sweet and melodic. That doesn’t mean Lightwings are necessarily lightweight, though. Likened by BBC London’s Gary Crowley to the La’s, ‘Who Pulled the Trigger’ is reminiscent in many ways of The Boo Radleys’ ‘Wake Up Boo’: it’s easy on the ear and makes the slightly less upbeat lyrical content easy to swallow.
