I have to admit I’d forgotten all about dEUS. After they burst onto the scene with their hugely acclaimed debut album, ‘Worst Case Scenario’ and the next two albums which consolidated their position as one of Belgium’s biggest exports after Stella Artois.
But then four years off saw them slip off the radar somewhat, and since making their return in 2004 they simply haven’t received the same kind of coverage, despite managing to release no fewer than three long-players, with ‘Following Sea’ being the seventh of their career (discounting 1995’s mail-order only ‘My Sister = My Clock’).
‘The Soft Fall’ is a pleasant slice of breezy, string-laced indie with a nicely balanced pop leaning. It’s not bad by any stretch, but doesn’t exactly shine in a way that says ‘special’ either.
