My review copy of the latest single from West London blues punks Taurus Trakker comes in a very cool hand-made sleeve with art from the band's drummer Alison Phillips and the words of Daisaku Ikeda. Which of course shows this band have proper D-I-Y punk ethics and the tunes to go with it.
To the band's credit, none of the tracks on the EP are from their recent album Building Ten album. It opens with A Rakket U Trust which is a pretty cool tune about needing to hear a certain sort of sound and having a need for something while you are missing that certain someone. It is a good opener and Martin Muscatt's vocals draw you into the EP's tales nicely.
But the song I was looking forward to most was Wild Woman In A Small Town: a song that sounds great live. On the EP, it's even better; a great tale of the road to ruin from small town to big city and onto paying your debts dancing round a pole as if it's an almost inevitable outcome of being a wild woman in a city like London.

Long Gone which opens with a great sax break from David Wright that then powers the rest of the song about a guy whose willing to be a down and out in order to make it or die trying. Nothing But Fire shows the consequences of that path over a blues tune about smoking powdered coke while spitting words of wisdom about how the music business treats you.
Security that closes the EP is one of those songs that many of us will identify with, getting ID'd going into a bar when you're far too old to need it and how you're never really secure over the top of a great wailing guitar solo. This is another good slice of West London Rock'n'Roll.
