All too often reviewers froth on about savvy or sassy pop singles that are ultimately nothing more than a bubble of hot air and some nifty slick production. With ‘Bucolics Anonymous’, however, The Trudy have produced something worth getting excited about.
Since their formation in 1988 by former Cardiacs Peter Tagg and Ralph Cade (a 10-year gap notwithstanding), The Trudy have been polishing up some genuine pop gems, and now offer up two concise slices of neatly-crafted pop. Breezy, savvy and utterly infectious, ‘Bucolics Anonymous’ is penned and played with precision. ‘Pictures of Friday’, meanwhile, hints at Blondie, Pulp and the Go-Gos, and it’s the very definition of uplifting. Ahh!
