Our Rating:
While it’s a good idea from a marketing perspective to pair two bands who share common ground and will therefore have cross-appeal, it’s remarkable just how similar the two bands on this split release sound. More to the point, it’s amazing to find two bands in one place with such dreadful singers. Maybe it’s a Wakefield thing.

It’s not all bad though. While Runaround Kids crank out an energetic and fiery brand of grungy punk with a dash of Pavementy indie, the lack of production – particularly on the vocals – lets things down rather. If the angst was a little more channelled and the sound a little more refined, given time, there’s real potential here.

The same is probably true of the wonky and chronically raw sounding Spills, and not even brilliant title can redeem this wince-inducing rehearsal for a recording session. Duff notes abound and the singer just sounds like he’s straining and struggling to keep it together – as does the guitarist. There’s masses of energy to the performance, so it’s a pity they can’t be arsed to give it that all-important focus and dab of polish that would render this track listenable.
