Review: 'Red Measure'
'No One's Face'

-  Label: 'Tough Act'
-  Genre: 'Rock' -  Release Date: 'December 10th'

Our Rating:
This EP took me by surprise. From across the pond, comes this release from Randall and his band; starting with a sturdy beat not outside the realms of early QOTSA, it develops a little into an entirely darker equation.

While a casual listener could write them off as generic stoner rock, there's a lot more here, lyrically and musically than that. Using discordant note progressions highlights an altogether more considered and wide-ranging set of influences than just the distorted riff work of Josh Homme and his ilk.

The production levels could probably improve and perhaps there could be more work done on writing hooks but as a template, there's a great band here, just waiting to come out. Call this the blueprint for something else in the future, aurally Red Measure are moving in the right direction.

An interesting listen for your rock fan looking for something a little different. Support independent music and give Red Measure a chance.
