They’ve been away for a while following the departure of their original vocalist, and now Waking Theo are back with a new lineup - hence ‘Reborn’ I guess. The Yorkshire metal five-piece may be ‘relentless and uncompromising’ but their assimilation of ‘classic thrash’ and ‘modern melodic death (whaaat??) and metalcore’ is a bit of a drag. It’s the usual deal: twiddly lead guitar over blasteat drums and chugging rhythm guitar with throat-wrecking hollering.
Technically, they’re extremely good and the production ain’t bad either, but by raging against the world in the most cliché way possible, these guys are only ever going to find themselves preaching to the converted. On balance, they would have been better letting Theo sleep.
