Review: 'Piano Interrupted'
'Two by Four'

-  Album: 'Two by Four' -  Label: 'Days of Being Wild'
-  Genre: 'Pop' -  Release Date: '3rd December 2012'-  Catalogue No: 'WILDLP001'

Our Rating:
‘Two by Four’, the first album by Piano Interrupted, a collaboration between Tom Hodge and Franz Kirmann, begins somewhere between post-rock and neoclassical, swelling strings before the introduction of piano takes things off on a jazzy trajectory, accompanied by glitchy beats. ‘Hobi’ brings a piano march and there are some intriguing stylistic juxtapositions here, which reflect the different musical backgrounds of the two collaborators – Kirmann’s field is electronica, pop and techno, while Hodge’s leanings are toward classical, jazz and minimalism. Either despite or because of this, they compliment one another well. Brooding passages emerge from time to time, but ‘Two by Four’ is primarily upbeat and swings along nicely.
