Review: 'FREQ NASTY'
'BRING ME THE HEAD OF...'

-  Album: 'BRING ME THE HEAD OF...' -  Label: 'NOVAMUTE'
-  Genre: 'Dance'

Our Rating:
This music is incredibly difficult to review, simply because it’s not designed for a chin-stroking reviewer to put it on the stereo on a Sunday afternoon and listen to it in great detail. In view of this, I was tempted to call up a friend and ask to borrow his Renault Clio with huge bass bins, so I could put this on and cruise around the city centre after dark, with the windows down and the alloys gleaming in the street lights.

However, I decided to stay where I was, and instead got on with something else, in order to replicate the situations in which Freq Nasty flourishes i.e. when it’s in the background. Sadly I couldn’t muster a party but I did enjoy the really crisp sounding beats, furry bass and analogue synth noises that this ex-pat Kiwi produces. Despite trumpeting his background (‘he travelled half way round the world…’) the CD has a distinctive London sound, aided and abetted by the vocalists and guests he introduces. The stand out tracks are those which feature vocalists, particularly the first track ‘Come Let Me Know’ which sets the tone for the rest of the album.

This quality album will no doubt pop up all over the place, bringing Freq Nasty’s urban two step to bars and clubs everywhere.
