Review: 'Webster, Colin / Holub, Mark / Anorak, Sheik'
'Languages Live at Vortex'

-  Album: 'Languages Live at Vortex' -  Label: 'Gaffer Records'
-  Genre: 'Ambient' -  Catalogue No: 'GR037'

Our Rating:
The drums clatter arrhythmically while warped guitars clanks and stutter and a sax blasts in all directions at the opening of ‘Il Fait Chaud’. After about three minutes of duelling and colliding off one another the three instruments fall into step with one another and a jerky, stop/start groove begins to emerge albeit briefly, before the sax shoots off on a tangent and everything dissolves to discord. After 10 minutes, I’m thoroughly disorientated and somewhat drained. And that’s pretty much how it goes. The four-track set comprises a three-way work of wild improv and partially organised chaos, which could either melt your brain or induce a rather nasty headache.
