Review: 'Serph'
'El Esperanka'

-  Album: 'El Esperanka' -  Label: 'Noble'
-  Genre: 'Indie' -  Release Date: '26th April 2013'-  Catalogue No: 'NBL-207'

Our Rating:
With breathy, elfin vocals swirling amidst an ethereal blend of orchestral post-rock and glitchy electro pop, ‘Twiste’ invites comparisons to Sigur Ros. However, this is but a detail of the full picture, and while it is pretty, it’s not altogether satisfying.

There’s no denying the infectious soft bounce of ‘Shift’ or ‘Curve’, or the smooth jangling, dewdrop-laced groove of ‘Session’, or the sweet glide of the overall sound, even if ‘Wizardmix’ gets a bit Jan Hammer.

But the j-pop jazz infusion of ‘Vesta’ and the meandering jazz-tinged improve of ‘Ankh’ are trite and contrived, and no less irritating than the syrupy tweeness of ‘Felixz’, making for an album that’s ultimately cloying and contrived-feeling.
