Review: 'Playmore, The'
'Things'

-  Genre: 'Indie'

Our Rating:
If a band doesn’t show confidence in their own music, who will? I get the importance – and the benefits – of being bold. If you don’t ask, you don’t get, as the phrase goes. In the music industry, bit of cheeky boldness can go a long way. But no-one likes arrogance. I mean, even fans of Oasis’ music would probably agree that the Gallaghers – Liam in particular – were obnoxious shits. They got away with it because their mediocre pub-rock had mass appeal.

So when an email containing the promo spiel from The Playmore found its way to my inbox, the first thing that struck me, my initial reaction was ‘they can fuck off!’. The line in question: ‘we would like to know if you could review our single “Things” on your website, eventually interview us and all the good things that come to your mind if you like our music and attitude.’

Presumptuous? Just a bit. I’m, not liking the attitude, but if the music justifies it... it’s a pity that the half dozen or so links to their Tumblr, Facebook, Website and Twitter didn’t include anything more than a 13-second teaser clip on YouTube relating to the single, which doesn’t appear on their upcoming debut album, ‘Jump Rock’. Still, as the 10 tracks on said album are mediocre indie with a rock slant, I doubt I’m missing much.

I think I’ll pass on that interview, thanks.
